The Railway Group D exam is conducted by the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) for recruitment to various posts such as Track Maintainer Grade-IV, Helper/Assistant, Assistant Pointsman, and other Level-1 posts in various departments of Indian Railways. The exam is conducted in two stages: Computer Based Test (CBT) and Physical Efficiency Test (PET).

Railway Group D Exam Overview

The Railway Group D exam is conducted by the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) for recruitment to various posts such as Track Maintainer Grade-IV, Helper/Assistant, Assistant Pointsman, and other Level-1 posts in various departments of Indian Railways. The exam is conducted in two stages: Computer Based Test (CBT) and Physical Efficiency Test (PET).


Railway Group D Exam Syllabus

Computer Based Test (CBT):

  • General Science: Physics, Chemistry, Life Sciences (up to 10th standard CBSE).
  • Mathematics: Number systems, decimals, fractions, LCM and HCF, ratio and proportions, percentage, mensuration, time and work, time and distance, simple and compound interest, profit and loss, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, elementary statistics, etc.
  • General Intelligence and Reasoning: Analogies, alphabetic and number series, coding and decoding, mathematical operations, relationships, syllogism, jumbling, Venn diagram, data interpretation and sufficiency, conclusions and decision making, similarities and differences, analytical reasoning, classification, directions, statement – arguments and assumptions, etc.
  • General Awareness and Current Affairs: Current events, Indian geography, culture and history of India including freedom struggle, Indian Polity and Constitution, Indian Economy, environmental issues concerning India and the World, sports, General scientific and technological developments, etc.

Railway Group D Eligibility Criteria

  • Nationality: Indian
  • Age Limit: 18-33 years (age relaxation as per government norms)
  • Educational Qualification: 10th Standard or ITI from institutions recognized by NCVT/SCVT or equivalent or National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) granted by NCVT.

  • Salary: The initial in-hand salary for Railway Group D posts is approximately Rs. 18,000 per month plus allowances.
  • Job Profile: Depending on the post, job roles may include maintenance of tracks, assisting in the operations of trains, maintaining cleanliness in coaches and stations, loading and unloading goods, etc.


How to Crack Railway Group D Exam
